With spring in full swing we are finally seeing some glorious weather on the Coastside! We are ready for a beautiful month of May with a great variety of brews on deck.

Brewmaster James Costa and Head Brewer Todd Emr made a trip out to Washington, DC for the Brewer’s Association Craft Brewers Conference. The conference, held this year April 10-13, is an industry super event that brings together craft beer ingredient suppliers, equipment suppliers, and brewers. Our brewers got a chance to check out some of the state of the art equipment and learn about innovative techniques in the world of craft brewing.

Our brewers passed a huge milestone as they churned out our company’s 1,500th batch of beer in April, 2017. This is a great opportunity to look back fondly at all of the awesome beers we’ve had the opportunity to share, and to look forward to all of the amazing brews to come! What better beer to mark this occasion than the award-winning Kölsch? This light-bodied beer has found its way into the hearts of drinkers and eaters alike, earning praise from beer critics, a permanent place on our beer list, and appearances in recipes all over our restaurant’s dining menu.

If you didn’t make it into the brewery in April, it’s not too late to try a couple of our April releases. Still available on tap at our brewery are the Harbor Light Wheat Ale, the Picture Show Pale Ale, and our Citraternative IPA.

The Harbor Light is a light and refreshing ale brewed with wheat and pilsner malt. Its soft malt profile combines with a touch of German Pearle hops leaving a crisp and refreshing impression on the palate.

The Picture Show Pale Ale is a refreshing springtime pale ale that features British pale malt, honey malt, and flaked oats. The experimental hop 09326 and Motueka hop strains lend a bright and refreshing citrus finish to this delightfully drinkable beer. Just add sunshine and you have the perfect spring ale!

The Citraternative is all about the Citra hop. It’s a single hop IPA with Golden Promise Pale malt, wheat, and oats for a bready, soft mouth feel to go with all that tasty Citra. This IPA is mouth wateringly tropical with hints of passionfruit and citrus.

Currently, our brewers are working on a rich treat: a creamy take on a mosaic IPA. This IPA features lactose, the very same milk sugar that gives our Calf-eine its creamy body and feel. Also coming in May is a coffee blonde ale, which will venture away from the tradition of featuring coffee exclusively in heavy dark beers.

More rumors are afloat about yet another batch of the insanely popular Word on the Street IPA, to be wrapped up in May. This enticingly crafted pale malt IPA sells out incredibly fast – so fast that it’s hard to get a hold of! IPA lovers should look out for an opportunity to try this beer if you haven’t already.

I am personally very excited about the Dance with the Devil golden strong our brewers are working on. This Belgian variety of strong ale is a classic and a longtime favorite beer style of mine. This style of beer proves that light-colored, heavy-bodied, high ABV ales don’t need to be IPAs packed with hops. This delightfully approachable strong beer full of subtle and complex flavors is something I usually find bottled and imported from Europe. I am therefore delighted to see a domestic golden strong being brewed right here in Half Moon Bay, California. I am excited to see what our brewers can do with this creation. Look out for the Dance with the Devil at our brewery or at Pacific Standard Taproom in Berkeley in the month of May.
