SF Beer Week and New Beer Releases

February will be a hoppy month indeed as we gear up for SF Beer Week! This month we will release a number of enticing new IPAs, including a double and a triple IPA, featuring some of our tried-and-true favorite hop strains as well as a new and exciting experimental ingredient: Lupulin Powder. We will continue our Ocho Barril Sour series with the release of our third installment, the Red Sails in the Sunset, a Flanders red ale.

hopsWe are eagerly awaiting brewmaster James Costa’s newest hopped-up creation, the Bat Flip XXXIPA, which will feature Eukanot, Citra, and Hercules hops in the traditional pelletized form as well as Simcoe and Centennial hops in whole-cone form. Our brewers find the whole-cone hops lend a brighter, more resinous and piney character that complements our beers best. The Bat Flip triple IPA will also feature the experimental Lupulin Powder, which is collected from the lupulin gland found in hops flowers, giving this creation an extra helping of the bitter hops flavor we love.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, we are working on a delightfully sweet porter for all the sweethearts out there. The Crazy for Coconuts Porter will feature toasted coconut, chocolate, and vanilla: perfect for the dark beer lovers and coco-nuts alike. Bring your sweetheart to our restaurant on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, for a complimentary tasting of this sure-to-please Valentine’s Day treat.

We are proud to announce our release of the Red Sails in the Sunset Flanders red ale. Aged over 18 months in oak wine barrels with organic tart cherries from Michigan, this is a truly special release for the sour fanatic. This classic brewing technique imparts that funky farmhouse character we love about sours. Our craft sour beer will only improve with time, making it the perfect bottle to keep in the cellar for a special occasion. Another bottled treasure to look forward to is our Papa Juice Old Ale. Aged in Redemption Rye whiskey barrels, this old ale will be a bold beer with notes of whiskey and oak.

SF Beer Week is all about breweries and beers coming together, and collaboration is the best way for us to celebrate our favorite craft with our favorite brewers. James is collaborating with a longtime friend and Beer Supply Group (BSG) representative Peter Hoey in the making of the I Need a Miracle XXIPA, featuring Citra and El Dorado hops pellets and Mosaic and Cashmere whole-cone hops flowers. In collaboration with Benoit Casper Brewing Company of Richmond, CA, we are producing a crisp and refreshing Belgian White. Along with our favorite Coastside brewery Hop Dogma Brewing Company of El Granada, CA, we are working on the Lost in the Fog New England Style IPA.

Perhaps our most intriguing project of 2017’s SF Beer Week is our double collaboration with EJ Phair of Pittsburg, CA and Hop Dogma. We are eagerly awaiting this modern IPA with an ancient heritage: featuring revived heritage malts provided by Country Malt Group. The malts used in this exciting creation are produced from classic grains that would have been used to make beer hundreds of years ago. We are very excited to see such talented brewers and quality ingredients come together in what could be the ultimate craft beer!

Opportunities to taste these new creations abound in the coming SF Beer Week:
