Half Moon Bay Brewing Company at SF Beer Week 2018
Half Moon Bay Brewing Company has hit the ground running in the New Year. With SF Beer Week just around the corner, there is much brewing and planning to be done.
Brewmaster James Costa is involved in a number of exciting projects while Pacific Standard Taproom is preparing to host a number of events, including the prestigious Battle of the State IPA Challenge!
SF Beer Week 2018 Collaborations
One of our favorite things about SF Beer week is the opportunity we have to collaborate with our favorite Bay Area brewers. When great brewmasters come together, amazing things tend to happen.
The entire bay is home to world-class brewing operations, but some of our favorite collaborators are located right here in our humble coastside community of Half Moon Bay. We are looking forward to getting together once again with the highly acclaimed brewers at Hop Dogma along with our newest neighbors and friends in brewing, Sacrilege Brewery. Our town’s best brewmasters are working together this year on a milkshake IPA, with rye, fresh blackberries and whole vanilla beans. We’re looking forward to seeing how these local masterminds bring these unique flavors together!
Outside our cozy-yet-thirsty town and across the Golden Gate, brewmaster James Costa is teaming up with our North Bay friends at Marin Brewing Company to create a funky farmhouse-style Saison. He’s also working with Independent Brewing Company in the East Bay on a New England style IPA with a super tropical Special Yeast Blend. This is a style that James has nailed in the past, so we are eagerly awaiting the result of this trans-bay collaboration!
MB Brewing 2018 SF Beer Week Specials
Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is preparing to celebrate SF Beer Week with some big and bold beers! We’re brewing up some of our all-time favorite hop-forward IPAs and opening some casks that have been aging special brews to perfection.
Swing for the Fences XXIPA
This double IPA is carefully crafted to showcase the piney-citrus character of its Amarillo, Simcoe and Centennial hops. A light amount of Vienna malt creates a nice malt backbone for this generously dry-hopped delight. Swing for the Fences is an exceptional double IPA.
Bat Flip XXXIPA
The Bat Flip Triple IPA is back again by popular demand. This beer is a celebration and appreciation of hops in the form of a masterful brew with Eukanot, Citra, and Hercules hops and whole-cone Simcoe and Centennial hops. Whole-cone hops bring out the brighter, more resinous and piney characteristics that we love about these hops strains. The Bat Flip Triple IPA also features lupulin powder, collected from the lupulin gland found in hops flowers. This beer is double dry-hopped, creating an aroma that jumps right out of the glass.
Barrel Aged Damage Inc. Imperial Stout
Our Damage Inc. Imperial Stout is well known as a big, bold stout, with a heavy body, malty sweetness, and suggestions of dark fruit flavors. Columbus, Chinook and Ahtanum hops balance the dark-roasted maltiness of this stout, producing a complex nose and delightful finish.
This limited, small-batch release of the Damage Inc. has been aged for fourteen months in Woodford Reserve Bourbon Barrels, which adds depth and complexity to this beer by mellowing out the alcohol esters, replacing them with vanilla notes. The aging process imbues this stout with the enriching charred characteristics of the bourbon barrels and brings this imperial stout to 12% ABV.
Pacific Standard Taproom Events
Making SF Beer Week possible requires a combined effort between an impressive number of breweries, taprooms, restaurants, event centers, volunteers, and of course, dedicated beer enthusiasts. We are honored to be able to contribute by hosting a number of events at our very own Pacific Standard Taproom in Berkeley. Stop in for a brew and join in on the festivities!
