Yes, We Can!
If it seems like all of your favorite breweries are suddenly canning their most popular brews, it’s for an excellent reason: cans protect beer from both light and oxygen, a brewer’s worst enemies. Sure, glass bottles and growlers look great; but, when the quality of the beer coming out of the container matters most, the can is a brewer’s best friend.
That’s why we decided to can our fan-favorite Word on the Street IPA in June. As usual, this beer amazed us with its disappearing powers – the cans have sold out almost as fast as we can get them on the shelves. If you’re able to find a stash of this super-popular brew at your local HMB Brewing partner grocery, stock up! It won’t last long. Of course, you can always wait for the next batch to come around. (Our blog is a great place to look for tips on what we’ve got brewing!)
We wanted to give our patrons the opportunity to take our beer to-go and enjoy the quality-saving powers of the can. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company crowler!
What is a crowler? If you haven’t seen one already, a crowler is the can’s take on a growler. Like a traditional glass growler, the crowler lets breweries and taprooms fill and seal these 32 Oz. aluminum containers on-demand. They combine the flexibility and portability of growlers with the quality-preserving properties of a can. The result is an innovation in craft beer technology that expands the ways we can enjoy our favorite brews!
We’ll be introducing our crowlers at our brewery and restaurant in Half Moon Bay. Look for these as we’ll be filling our first crowlers in less than a month!
We’re looking forward to getting together with one of our favorite brewing companies, Benoit Casper, for an evening of Belgian-style beers on July 18th at our Pacific Standard Taproom at 2055 Center St in Berkeley. We’ll have at least four of their Belgian beers on tap. Come by as we celebrate this unique and refreshing beer style with one of the best Belgian-style beer producers in the Bay Area!

Our brewers just brewed a Pale Ale that will be a welcome treat for the summer heat. The Background Noise PA is a pale ale that features lupulin powder from Mosaic and Citra hops, as well as a couple of experimental hops strains – specifically, strains #6277 and #9326. It is a light and refreshing pale with bright citrus hops notes.
For something stronger, we’re getting ready to release our next barrel aged creation. The Take It to the Limit Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine is a heavy, malty brew with strong bourbon notes from its bourbon barrel aging process. We’ll be releasing this high-gravity brew in 22 oz bottles. Look for it this month at our restaurant at 390 Capistrano Road, Half Moon Bay, CA or at our taproom, Pacific Standard Taproom, in Berkeley in the coming weeks!
